trapped in a pale room
of gleaming light
they made me see
so vast and clear
this place erases minds
fear vanishes until the next rush
of blazing colors unknown
my sight cracks and melts in angles
raving patterns - twisted silhouettes
swirling down to grey
white turns into black - it's beloved opposite
just like me, becoming my antagonist
there is no sound - just a pounding
neutralising - hypnotising
and riddles lead to riddles
where dead eyes are twitching

DISTANT SCREAM
followed the traces
into the wood
childlike curiosity
lured me into a small hole
within moist ground
surrounded by black soil
all sound suddenly disappears
only a feeble gleam
reflecting in my blinking eyes
a few steps to get further into
the deep and unknown
realm of a creature
that calls this it's shelter
suddenly an entity
appears where I entered
the thing, human-like
gaining weight and size
is growing claws
panic overcomes
and terror reigned
angst-ridden deeper into darkness
no matter how fast I run
a relentless cold breath
stuck to my neck
the echoes of my own dispair
distant screams

I tried to make some choices right
It seemed to be a full-moon night
hideous light is heating freely
like it is all made up for me

I'm still roaming at memorable places
seeking that hideous light again

certain spots all over attract me
each step covering intangible distances
the more portals I get lured in
the less I care where I am heading for
someone that accepts life without goals
fortune is a matter of perspective
here in the teleport maze
where I won't witness anymore
that mincing gestures
of those once close

I dig this album so much, definitely a keeper. Subtly and masterfully mixing death metal subgenres, backed with an over the top production. They're true professionals. Can't wait for their next release!

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter.

Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end.
